Rail firms taking the piss
|
Just on a late night train back from Liverpool Street and noticed a poster on one of the platforms stating that there was going to be no rail service on weekends on the Southend Vic line into Liv St. between 4th February and 14th May. Replacement bus services to operate between Southend , Wickford and Billericay down to Newbury Park. Not exactly news I know . Then I saw that season tickets will be accepted on C2C instead , and as I pay almost £4K pa for the pleasure of my daily commute I thought that's the least they can do. Then I noticed an asterisk underneath in small print saying that 'except on the dates of these West Ham home games' giving every home fixture date we have. So I asked the guy on the information desk .. ' are they seriously saying that if I pay thousands for my ticket and you can't run a service at weekends I can use it on the other line except on days when West Ham are at home and I'd have to pay for another ticket on C2C ? ' ... ' Err , yes Sir , that's what's been decided. It's to help overcrowding on trains on West Ham home games'... What a liberty.

c2c aren't obliged to accept GA tickets at all, so I do wonder if it may be a commercial decision on their part to exclude those days. Harsh but that's possibly the likeliest explanation. Who owns C2C now? Didn't National Express sell the franchise on to some Italian company recently?

"The London Mayor regrets that Crossrail construction work takes precedence over some crap football club that plays in an athletic stadium at Stratford."

There must be some sort of compensation for the days they aren't running, surely. That must count as a delay to service if you're getting a bus replacement service.

Yeah that's a pisstake.
Just seems like profiteering to me. Also unfair on people who need to travel who AREN'T going to a game either.

I mean surely you just bunk through a barrier where you get on and then use your ticket at the other end anyway, considering it will work at Stratford.
Doubt anyone would argue, you just plead ignorance.

I bought one of those West Ham Train Season Tickets, back end of last year I couldn't travel for around 5 games because of the works, and what with this now will add up to I don't know how many!
Reckon I could still use that on the C2C, seeing as the sole purpose of this ticket is for the West Ham games?
Would probably be more hassel than it's worth claiming money back as they would just come back with "well, we are laying on buses".

Make a claim whenever your journey is 15 minutes late or more. Wish more would claim, it may make them think about their service

'Should be nationalised same as the gas and electric companies.'
Incidentally, Network Rail, who will be undertaking the work and have ordered the cancellations are nationalised.

If you're going to nationalise a business then beside Labour is in power is the moral of this story.

I use the railways in Austria on a regular basis and I also have the wonderful experience of South Eastern on a Mon - Fri basis.
One is nationalized, the other is privatized
One runs in all weathers, the other:
Is always late by at least 15 mins per journey
Is always crowded
Has NO discernible difference between 1st Class & Cattle class.
Operates a lottery style system of determining how many coaches your train has.
Is filthy, smells and always has the heating either on in the summer or off in the winter
Charges 5k a year for the pleasure of using the service.
Invest billions on new stations and paint...spends nothing on improving the rail stock or punctuality
Absolutely shocking state the railways in this country
Should be nationalized immediately....as they are in Austria and most countries that operate a decent service.
